Yes, two devices are needed to start using AlfredCamera. One will act as the Camera device, while the other will act as the Viewer device, which is where you view the live feeds and captured footage.
We recommend using your regular phone as the Viewer device. That way, you can access live feeds wherever you are and get useful push notifications in real time.
The Camera device could be a spare smartphone, tablet, or even a computer webcam.
If you don’t have any spare devices that could be put to work immediately, not to worry! AlfredCam, our first indoor security camera, works wonders. Learn more about how AlfredCam improves home security for you.
The AlfredCamera app works on Android and iOS devices as well as on web browsers. It is also compatible with our first indoor security camera, AlfredCam.
We love DIY, so we always recommend repurposing old phones as security cameras where possible. You can then flesh out your DIY home security system with AlfredCam.

To use AlfredCamera, a Wi-Fi connection is required for initial setup. Camera devices must be connected to a Wi-Fi network to send and receive data to and from your account. You can use a Wi-Fi network or mobile data on your Viewer device (aka your current phone) to access your live feeds and stored footage from anywhere.
Most users will connect their Camera devices to their home Wi-Fi network for optimal use. To find out how to get the best connection, check out the requirements.
You’ll be able to watch the live feed captured by the Camera device from your Viewer device once you have successfully paired them.
All connected Camera devices are stacked on the main menu of the app, which you’ll see as soon as you open it. Tap them to view the live feed!
Don’t panic if you haven’t heard of QR code pairing before! We lay out the step-by-step process in this short tutorial video.
Connecting devices is done easily by generating a QR code to be scanned on the main viewing device (i.e. your current phone). After you’ve tapped to add a camera, a QR code will appear on the Viewer device.
Hold up the QR code for the Camera device (whether that’s AlfredCam or a spare mobile device) to scan, keeping it at a distance of 6 to 12 inches. It will then pair.
When you open the AlfredCamera app on your Viewer device, all live feeds are stacked on the main tab. Tap them to view the live feed. If you have more than one camera device connected, you will need to view each feed one at a time.
Add as many cameras as you need. We encourage experimenting with setups that cater to your specific monitoring needs so that you can build your own security camera system, free of limitations.
