Download Alfred (Android or iOS). Then you have Google account. Gmail account. Then what happens is you’ll take a phone just like the one over here. Take that. Download Alfred on here. Take this phone over here. Turn it on.

Take this phone right here. Put it against the wall like this. Tape it up to the wall. And you have literally saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars because now you have Alfred (Android or iOS) on the phone. And you’d be able to see everything you want.

Superheroes Brian and Melissa introduced Alfred on their YouTube channel “RV with Tito”!!! Thank you so much!!!

Hey guys, have you ever wondered if there is a way for you to keep an eye on your RV while you are away, or when you are not around? Maybe you have a small pet inside and you worry about it getting too hot, or what it is doing. Maybe for security reasons, you just want the pace of mind in knowing things are ok inside.

Or in my case I like to keep tabs on what my temperature level is inside, what my battery charge level is.

Well, I found a really cool way to do that. And you know what? It didn’t cost me any money and all I needed was an old smartphone to do it. I’m going to show you how to set that all up for yourself.

So, you’ve got an old smartphone, you know, like this. You upgrade it. It’s just been laying around. What am I gonna do with this? Maybe I’ll donate it or something. Well, before you do that…you might wanna try reusing it for something because it turns out that even old smartphones are pretty powerful little computers that can do a lot of things. Certainly a lot more powerful than my old desktop computers.

But, I was thinking of possibly ways to kind of reuse this phone of mine. It’s an old Android, and you know, it’s got cameras and everything. I wonder if there is a way that I can turn it into some sort of remote video security camera. I went online and it turns on there are a couple of apps that make it really easy.

So you’re gonna need an older smartphone, and it can be either an Android phone or an iPhone.

It just needs to be able to connect to WiFi, and to be able to run either an iOS or an Android app .

And you have one of those…let’s say you don’t have one of those, I am sure you can find somebody who does have an older phone and you can probably take it out of his hands pretty cheap or for nothing.

Maybe you have a newer phone. You’re gonna need that when you are out and about. You wanna be able to see what’s going on.

You are going to need a Gmail account to be able to connect these phones together. The app that I use is called Alfred. There are a couple of apps out there but I found this one actually to be pretty easy to set up. I’ll show you how to set it up. It’s pretty easy. Let’s get started.

First, connect the old phone to WiFI

Download the Alfred app on both phones.

On an Android, go to Google Play Store and search for Alfred, and you’ll find it right here.

And you’re gonna install it on both phones. So, install it on your smartphone, and you’re gonna install it on your old phone.

OK, so once you open the app for the first time, you’re gonna sign in with a Gmail address, and you’re gonna have to use the same Gmail account for both phones so this is how it knows how to connect these two phones. You know, sign up for a Gmail account if you don’t have one. It’s free.

Once you have that set up, it’s gonna simply ask you what this device is used for, so this phone is my Viewer. So I’m gonna select Viewer for this one. And on the other camera, it’s gonna be the Camera. Pretty simple!

OK, so I use this knife block here to hold the Camera, until I get a better solution.

So I just keep the phone here. It has the front camera pointing that way and the rear-facing camera pointing here towards my battery monitor, which shows my current battery voltage and you know to see if it is charing from the solar panel and I have this interior thermometer so I can monitor inside temperature. So I just kinda stick it right there, kinda get it situated just so works out just so perfectly. I can switch it remotely. I can see that side of the RV or keep pointing at this, and keep this on voltage mode so I can keep my eye on current voltage. Cuz I also have my inverter running during the day so I can keep phone plugged in to AC power so it doesn’t die on me.

It’s powered up but it doesn’t use that much power, so it works pretty good. Pretty Cool!

Now, in Camera mode, you have some more options as well. Hmm…if you click on the right hand side on the bottom here, you can actually switch either camera to be the viewer or the camera anytime and it’s just gonna reconfigure itself. You can also set up motion detection if you wanna be alerted each time it detects some motion around your RV or whatever. You can also turn audio on or off so if you wanna remotely listen to the audio, you can control that here.

To monitor my security camera from my regular smartphone, I simply click on the Alfred app and it gets connected for me and you can see right away it has already found the Camera and the RV. Just tap on it, and it comes. Look. I got my camera. I can look at my voltage and my temperature right there. It’s got a few controls on the bottom. You can take a lot of pictures while you are looking at it. You can also turn on the flashlight if you want. It’s got a Night Vision mode. What I really like is this little control right there. You can use this to switch between the rear-facing camera and the front-facing camera. Isn’t it pretty cool? So now I can monitor what’s going on! Right here, I can just switch it back.

So it gives you two views just using the two cameras on the phone. Oh, another cool feature is that you can turn on the microphone on your monitoring camera or you can turn it off. If you want, and listen to the audio from inside your RV. You wanna hear what’s going on. I turn it on sometimes to if my fantastic fans are running.

Alfred sends his most heartfelt appreciation to Brian and Melissa!!!

The Android Guy introduced Alfred on YouTube!!!

Home Security: Alfred Android or iOS

I mean, security is something which everybody wants in their lives but nobody actually wants to spend any money on it. All of us have that brother or sister or roommate who’s touching our stuff. You know about it but you still cannot do anything about it. We’re always worried about our stuff being taken or stolen or misplaced, so with this video, I’ll be showing you how to use your Android device as a cheap-- it’s free-- and effective CCTV surveillance camera.

If you want a solution that is much simpler. Something on which you can record surveillance footage on one phone and watch it simultaneously on another from anywhere in the world? In that case you can use the app: Home Security Camera Alfred (Android or iOS).

You need two phones for this, so install it on two phones, and open it up. Once it is opened, scroll to the right and let me get through the intro, and tap on the START button at the bottom and select which device you want to use as the CCTV camera and which device you want to use as the receiver. Now we are gonna be using the phone on my left as the CCTV camera and the device on my right as the viewer/receiver. So, select that.

BAM! You have the footage. the two devices can connect to different networks so you can be anywhere in the world and you can still have a look over your things at home. Again, it is absolutely free, 100% safe and very very cost-efficient. You can also speak into the devices. It acts as a two-way radio. It can be heard from the other side, so it can be used as a very handy nanny cam if you have small kids or baby around the house. You can check on them and also speak to them by using Alfred (Android or iOS).

After everything is set. LEt’s talk about something which is very important: that is the mounting options. You can place your phone on a pen stand, propping on a pair of jeans hanging on the wall, etc. But the best about using a phone as a CCTV camera is it is all conspicuous. Nobody will notice that somebody is watching them, which is the best thing about using a phone as a security camera. You can put your phone to sleep. You can put a password on it. And…it will still work. So that is the best thing about the setup.

Now you can get your hands on on these mobile phone dashboard stand, which we use in our car. You can mount your phone on virtually anywhere. You can mount it at the height, to get an advantage point and have a look over the entire area, just like a real CCTV camera.

Home Security: Alfred Android or iOS

If you want to monitor your home or business while you’re away, you’re going to need an Internet-connected camera. However, if you have an old smartphone that’s sitting around gathering dust, an old tablet that has lost its luster or an Android stick with a webcam like the Measy U2C, you can turn it into an always-on, wireless camera with minimal hassle. Here’s how to turn your Android device into a security cameraIf the idea of a networked security camera that you can remotely view and receive alerts from appeals to you (but the $$$ of a commercial model does not), read on as we show you how to turn older generation Android phones into sophisticated security cameras.

Why Would I Want to Do This?
Well, we hate to presume, but we imagine you opened this tutorial because you have something you want to keep on eye on. Whether that’s your backdoor to watch for delivered packages, your new ferret cage to see if Mr. Winks actually uses the super-deluxe hammock lounge on the top floor, or your kids in the backyard while you’re in the house tidying up, is your business.

We’re just here to help you do it cheaply with old hardware you likely have laying around already (or can acquire easily off eBay). The Android phone we used for the tutorial, an HTC Hero, can be picked up off eBay for $20-25—a fraction of the cost of Wi-Fi security cameras, and the phone will offer a radically more customizable user experience.
If you want to get a notice whenever someone, say, drops a package off on your porch or opens your back gate, download Alfred and build your free security system.

If you are reusing one of your old phones we would strongly recommend performing a factory reset on the device and then updating it to the most current version of Android available. Stability is important when deploying a device such as a security camera, so removing any extra applications, freeing up as much memory as possible, and running the most recent stable Android release for your device are all important considerations.

Hello I am Doug. Today I am teaching you how to turn your spare smartphones into a web-based video surveillance camera, like DropCam, except it is free. You will need a spare smartphone so grab your stack of phones. And you’ll need an app called Alfred.

I’m gonna using it to catch who’s been stealing my pop. That’s right, I said “pop” because I am from Minnesota, and someone has been stealing my diet coke.

Setting the app up is easier than accidentally falling in love with a girl in Las Vegas who has an Adam’s Apple. Install the app on both phones and use your Gmail address to tie the two phones together. One phone is the Viewer. One phone is the Camera. That’s it. You are up and running in a moment. You then set the camera phone up somewhere.

I’ll use this fancy tripod known as a glass. Now we play the waiting game.
Just a couple of features while we wait. You can talk through the in-home camera by holding down the speaker phone button, “Hey, get out of my house”. You can record snippets while you are watching by holding down the recorder button and record “Moments” as it is called. And you get other things like Night Vision, switch to portrait or landscape, and stuff like that.

How to use your phone as CCTV camera.

  1. Download Alfred app from Play Store.

  2. On one of your devices, set it to Viewer mode and on another to Camera mode.

  1. Place your Camera Phone where you want.

  1. You must be logged in to the same Google account in both devices. It doesn’t need a WiFi connection as long as you are connected to the Internet.

  1. You can warn anyone from anywhere just by holding the microphone button and speaking.

  2. You can even record that moment just by holding the video recording button.

  3. You can also switch to your secondary Camera and vice versa by tapping the button.

  4. You can also turn the flash on or off.

  5. You can also turn on the Night Vision feature if it is dark outside.

Home security systems cost quite a bit. Some of us just don’t have the money to shell out, especially this time of the year where home invasions and home burglaries are a lot higher than any other time of the year because of the holiday seasons. You know, people’s gifts, people breaking into people’s houses to steal their gifts and stuff. We don’t have the money to get a home security system.

What if you can turn your old smartphones that you have lying around into a home security camera? That’s what this app does right here. This app is called Alfred. It’s pretty nice. Now when you first set it up, it’s gonna ask you two questions. a) Is this smartphone going to be the Viewer or the Camera?

As you guys can see right here, I have my Warp Elite set up as my camera. It’s pretty much doing its thing right now, streaming video, connected on my home WiFi. I can place this anywhere. I can try and make it inconspicuous in an area where the angle will capture my entire bedroom. And then when I’m away from home, I can be in the Viewer application as you guys can see right here. You can have multiple rooms set up, so you have multiple phones connected. Place each phone in a specific room. That way you can pretty much watch your whole house.

As you can see, this camera is not connected, but this one is right now. This is the Warp Elite, so I know the Warp elite is in my room. So I can pretty much click it to preview what’s going on. I do have the volume down because right now since both devices are close to each other, there is a massive amount of feedback. I don’t know if you guys want to hear that right now.

There are several things you can do with the Viewer app. Well I shouldn’t say it like that because it’s one application. You just choose whether the phone is the Viewer or the Camera. So let’s just say Viewer mode. That’s better. There’re several options you can do. Right now I am getting a constant feed of what’s going on. This bottom button here with the camera, you can actually press and hold that, and it’s going to record a clip that you could share. Let’s do that right now. As you guys can see, it’s beginning to record a clip. Let’s do another two seconds. Now I have my clip. A preview window’s gonna pop up. I can click that, and I can replay the stream. You can see the stream is actually quite smooth, so there it is. I can share that to Facebook, I can create a link for people to download the video and watch, or if I click these three dots here I can share either by email address, Google drive for safekeeping, Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Snapchat… You guys get the gist of it.

So here’re all the demo clips I made, testing this out. Anyways let’s go back and let’s watch the stream real quick. Just so you guys know this is still in beta, so there are about one to two kinks. This is probably the only problem I find with this app. When you actually record a clip and you try to go back into the stream, it tends to just really kind of mess up. Let’s come out and go back in again. Now it works.

So, as you guys saw, it showed the battery life of my Camera. I don’t have it on the charger but normally I do. That way, it doesn’t run out of power. Now this right here, the microphone button. If you see somebody in your house and you want to spook them or whatever, you can do so. Just talk. It’s actually feeding to my phone. Guess you heard the feedback there. You can actually do that.

Couple other things you can do from the Viewer mode: you can switch it from landscape to portrait mode, you can reverse the cameras, switch it out, you guys can see it’s actually shooting at my roof right now. And switch it back to the rear camera. Also, it does have Night Vision. If I turn off the lamp at my desk, go ahead and turn on Night Vision, which doesn’t work all too well. Still need some source of lighting, and that’s what the next tab here is for: flash. Turn my flash on and there you go. Now I got everything. So you do have night mode. You’ve gotta have some light there. It won’t actually pick up everything straight up in the dark. And you can activate your flash by hitting the flashlight button, and that will stay on. As you guys can see, flashlight’s on, off, back on, there it is.

So there’s some pretty cool stuff you can do with this. Basically the whole idea of it is you know, keeping an eye at home when you are not at home to make sure there is no one in your house. And it’s awesome like I said you can have multiple Cameras all going off at once, and you can just monitor each area. And besides the fact you can use it as a home security system, it’s also pretty cool you can kind of use it like a video baby monitor. So say you know you have a new addition to the family, a baby boy or a baby girl, you want to make sure everything is OK while you are downstairs doing the dishes or something, you’re gonna have one of your old smartphones pointed at the bassinet or the crib for keeping an eye on the baby. Of course you have audio to listen to it, so if the baby cries, you can hear it. You can hear it cry. Also, just to make sure that everything is copacetic.

This is really cool. There is so much you can actually do with it. You can use at home, you can use this at your place of business. It’s a phenomenal app. I really dig this application. I definitely recommend this. Sure there is a little slight kink when you are actually recording a video, so you can capture video and you have that for evidence, or for whatever purpose. But you know, in general, it does what it is supposed to do. It is supposed to, you know, basically, monitor your home. It’s doing that quite well.

I truly love this application. I really do. I actually used it today, going out and about with my family to celebrate my son’s birthday. He turned 10. And I wanted to keep an eye on the house, so I set up different smartphone around the house, and had them all on and connected to chargers so they wouldn’t run out of battery. Pretty much it was like watching my entire house. Cool stuff.

Anyways, guys, that’s pretty much it for this video, this demo of the application known as Alfred. It’s completely free in the Play Store, which is also great. It does have some ads at the top but hey you know what, no biggie. That’s what it’s supposed to do. So if you guys enjoy this video, let me know by clicking that thumbs-up button. Subscribe if you have not for featured content like this. And let me know you guys’ thoughts and opinions on this application, and you’ll see me in the next one. Bye.

This is an awesome app I found. It lets you use multiple old cell phone cameras as ip cams and you can view them anywhere. Great for a nanny cam, pet cam, Security cam!! Has NIGHT VISION, motion detection, turn on the Flash-Light!!! Record video! 2 way talk! The paid version removes ads.
