It\u2019s a bit larger than that of other similarly-priced cameras, but it makes sense given that the camera itself is larger than average. Once the app is installed, users quickly find plenty of detailed guides inside the app that help with mounting the camera, setting up automations, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Installation_Onboarding\"><\/span><strong>Installation &amp; Onboarding<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td>App Setup Time<\/td><td>Mounting tools included?<\/td><td>Drilling?&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>10-15&nbsp; minutes<\/td><td>Screws x 2Wall plugs<\/td><td>\u2714\ufe0f<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Setting up the unit requires downloading the Kasa Smart app, an excellent and well-designed app that controls a whole host of Kasa branded products, from doorbells to smart lights (see below for more on the app).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users sign up or login to a Kasa account and are encouraged to provide a location \u2018to determine sunrise and sunset times\u2019, though this isn\u2019t required.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Promotions, anonymous analytics, and bug reports, and two-step verification can also all be opted out of.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kasa allows for \u2018group\u2019 devices to be paired, in other words,multiple products at once to speed up installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plugging in the camera via the USB cable will power it on. The status light on the front will blink orange and green, and the camera will also perform a test pan and tilt. The blinking light indicates that it is ready to pair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connecting the camera was a little troublesome at first. Instead, the camera creates a wireless network which must be connected to by the phone as if it were a Wi-Fi hub, i.e. through your phone\u2019s Wi-Fi settings menu.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mounting is a simple process involving two screws, a mounting plate, and matching sticker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The app\u2019s instructions specify details like what type of screwdriver is needed, making mounting the camera a breeze even for those that are a little daunted by the prospect of a mini DIY job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In most circumstances, mounting the camera on the side of a wall would be ill-advised because of its shape, size and movement. The app is sophisticated and cleanly designed, and functioned flawlessly on my iPhone XR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Kasa produces a range of products, the app serves as a kind of automation hub for your home, seamlessly combining all of the products under the brand name into a Cloud-based calendar that gathers \u2018event\u2019 information; motion detected events from the camera, for example, alongside activity gathered from the doorbell.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Filters allow users to easily search through everything collected here, making effective automation across the home accessible and uncomplicated for even the least tech-savvy of users. Cloud-based storage has to be enabled to access this feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-link-color wp-elements-83fa069cbaadc3654b33ff47bbab4c1f\">Automations are called \u2018Smart Actions\u2019.
